The Elvish Kingdom of Riddelsdell
You’ve all heard the tales of the Elvish kingdom of Rivendell. Well these are the stories from Riddelsdell. A small country garage, which was established in 1900 and is not only Gulf’s smallest filling station in the world; but also lays claim to being the world’s oldest, continuously operating garage.
For those of you who have just found us – Welcome. For those of you who have known us for years – this is just an update on the latest occurrences which you might find interesting.
Tales from the Workshop
On Monday we received an urgent telephone call from a driver from Middlesborough who was in the area. He had just taken a call from the DVLA to remind him that the MOT on his vehicle had expired. As he was far from home and needed his MOT renewed immediately, he was in a sticky situation. Who you gonna call? Well – Riddelsdell Bros of course! We fitted the job into the diary and sorted it all out for him without a fuss. The moral of that story is – Don’t leave your MOT until the last moment. If you had an MOT extension because of the COVID situation, don’t forget the new date and get your vehicle booked in with us NOW!
On Tuesday we had a call about a car which had too much oil in it. We sorted that out. The moral of that story is – Why are you trying to do your own oil change? Come along to Riddelsdell Bros for us to look after all your vehicle needs. From large service to small; from vehicle restoration to small repair; from vehicle checks before long journeys to tyre change – our workshop is ready to meet whatever you need to keep you and your vehicle on the road.
News from "the Corner Office"
This week we acquired two lovely previously owned vehicles. We’re very particular about the cars we acquire for our forecourt. If we don’t love the car, we know you won’t. If it’s a car that appeals to us, we know it will appeal to our customers. Come along to see what we have on our forecourt at the moment. If you are looking for something particular, let us know because we have a big source list, and will probably be able to find it for you.
Recently, we were asked to source a particular car for a customer. He was delighted and, because of that service, sold his previous vehicle through us – which another lucky local customer was able to drive away - wearing a smile! The moral of that story? With a wealth of contacts, made down the years; and with an extensive knowledge and love of cars, from classic to modern, from vintage to performance; Riddelsdells should be your first port of call when you are looking for your next vehicle.
Two examples this week spring to mind. One elderly and long-standing customer called us because he felt too old to continue driving but he had a beautiful car that needed a good home. Another popped along with a petrol can and just wanted £2-worth of fuel for his lawn mower. Apart from having two wonderful conversations with local residents, we had two happy customers. More importantly, we took time to give time to two local residents who must – like the rest of us – be finding this strange non-contact situation very difficult. That’s what it means to be part of a local community. We listen, we care and we make time for our local community.
