Raleigh announced their first moped at the Savoy Hotel, London in October 1958.  This was known as the RM 1 and finished in two tone grey.  It had a Sturmey–Archer engine made by BSA, with a single speed clutch-less transmission and 26 inch wheels fitted with hub brakes. It was marketed through Raleigh's existing chain of cycle dealers.

In November 1961 the RM 5 Supermatic model was announced with production to start in February 1961.  Finished in Charcoal and Pearl Grey, and fitted with a 2.66bhp engine.  The RM 5 is fitted with variator transmission and a dual-seat and is the only Raleigh moped to be fitted with rear suspension.  Front suspension is by leading links.  It was originaly priced at £87-3s-0d.

The moped is from my private collection, is registered as an Historic Vehicle and consequently no car tax or MOT is required. However the bike will be serviced with all fluids replaced and chains tensioned at the point of sale.
